Board of Fire Commissioners

The Fire District is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners who are elected by the registered voters of the Township of Burlington. Each year, the board is responsible for submitting a budget to the State of New Jersey for review and approval. In accordance with New Jersey State Law, the budget is presented to the voters of Burlington Township on the third Saturday in February between the hours of 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM for a vote. Election of Fire Commissioners also occurs at this time.

The Commissioners of the Fire District have the powers, duties, and functions within the district for the prevention and extinguishment of fires and the regulation of fire hazard to the same extent as a municipality. The Board can perform only those acts for which expressed or implied authority exists in law or in the rules and regulations stemming therefrom. The Board assumes final legal, ethical, moral, and financial responsibility of the district in accordance with New Jersey Statutes.
